First food grown in space and eaten (2015)

In 2015 ISS crews from Expedition 44 became the first people to ever eat food that was grown in space.

The astronauts target crop was a set of some very unsuspecting and surprised Red Romain Lettuce that had been smuggled on board the space station by means of a SpaceX Dragon earlier during Expedition 40.

Prior to the unfortunate demise by crunching, some of the lettuce managed to escape back to earth before the greens were consumed using one of the same SpaceX Dragons, however as the saying goes:
“What goes up must come down” alas their plans were foiled.

Sadly, once on the ground, the Romain greens were apprehended by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration,
who had been lying in wait and preceded to intercept their return to earth by means of a rather large boat.

Unfortunately, the lettuce that had made it to the ground in some ways suffered a worse fate then their counter parts in orbit, as after they were apprehend they were dissected for scientific study.

As for the greens still stuck on board the station… Well I am sure you know how this story ends.
